North gives various athletic awards during the season. The Most Common Award is an Athletic Letter. Students earn letters by participating in a sport at the varsity level and fulfilling criteria set by the coach. The lettering requirements vary by team. Over 5,000 students have earned letters during their time at North.
The Most prestiegous award presented to female athletes is the Athena Award. The Athena Award was created in the 1972-1973 school year to honor the best female athetle in each school.
Student-Athletes can also earn all conference awards. These awards are selected by the conference coaches at the end of the season. These players are the best in the city conference for the given sport for that year. North has had numerous players named All-Conference. Prior to coaches selecting all conference players, the various newspapers would select the all-conference team. It was possible for a player to be named on one, two or more all conference teams.
Various media outlets also name their "all-star" teams. Students who are named to these teams are usually decided upon by a commitee of coaches.
Student-Athletes can also earn the All-City All Academic athletic award. This award is given to all seniors who have earned two or more athletic letters and earned a Grade Point Average of 3.5 or better through the third quarter of their senior year. The student must participate in one sport during their senior year, unless they participate in a Spring sport. If the student participates in a Spring sport, they must have played during the Spring of their junior year.
