North Community High School was established in 1888 and has existed for over 130 years in several buildings all located on the North Side of Minneapolis. North is strengthened by the loyalty of community members and alumni that stay connected and support each new class of Polars.

North provides a high-quality high school education with advanced programming options including advanced placement (AP), College in the Schools at the University of Minnesota (CIS), Post Secondary Enrollment options at MCTC (PSEO), and Project Lead the Way.  North has courses in music, visual arts, radio, and dance and holds vibrant student performances that educators, community members, and families look forward to each year. North has strong athletic programming with both basketball and football making state appearances including a few wins.

North is filled with educators who bring love and commitment every day, communicate and collaborate regularly with families, and hold the highest hopes and expectations for students.  Under the leadership of the principal, Mauri Melander Friestleben, adults and students at North are reminded daily that we are loved more than we know, braver than we can imagine, more beautiful beyond what we can see, and stronger than we sometimes feel.
