North High participates in the National History Day Competition every year.  For this project based unit, students self select a moment in history and investigate the main event, background, build up, short term impact and legacy of this moment.  After extensive research, students create a webpage, board or performance to share what they have learned.

On Thursday March 7, community members, parents, and teachers showed up in numbers to support our students at our building history day competition.  Students received personalized feedback and affirmation from a variety of caring, invested adults.

Five North students were selected to move on to compete at a regional level.  These five students did additional research for two weeks and then woke up early and got themselves to the competition on Saturday May 4.  Some of the projects that progressed included:

  • Malik Marcus - board on the Black Panther Party
  • Alexis Hollman - board on the life of Sarah Baartman
  • Iyonna Riddley - board depicting the Children's March
  • Cierra Day - board on the Nat Turner Rebellion

All students did a fabulous job and represented North High well at the regional competition.  Malik Marcus received an honorable mention and one other student will move on to the State History Day Competition at the University of Minnesota on Saturday, May 4.
