Looking for Student Leaders

Do you have great ideas?  Do you want to organize for improvements?  Do you want to make this year the most fun ever?  If you would like to take a leadership role at North High, please consider running for Student Council. We will elect 8 student council representatives this year.  Look under the student tab on the North High website to find the nomination form. 

Important dates

  • Nomination deadline: Sept 17
  • Campaigning:  Sept 20 - Oct 1
  • Elections: Oct 1

All officers are expected to:

  • Listen to the students you represent
  • Attend weekly meetings every Friday during advisory
  • Attend a longer fall retreat to establish norms of collaboration
  • Attend additional committees or meetings as a representative of North High students
  • Keep all grades at C or higher
  • Hold yourself to a high standard of behavior and do not participate in negative behaviors that could result in suspension from school.  

Each role has specialized responsibilities.  Students can run for multiple roles but can only be elected in one role.  We will use rank choice voting to select the winner for each role.  

President

  • Must be an 11th or 12th grader
  • Elected by all grades
  • Represent students for public statements like state of the school, site council meetings, and other official settings
  • Collaborate with the Principal and Assistant Principal on school initiatives
  • Speak on behalf of North High students as needed

Vice President

  • Must be an 11th or 12th grader
  • Elected by all grades
  • Be ready to fill in for all President duties when the President is not available

Treasurer

  • Can be a 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grader
  • Elected by all grades
  • Keeps an accurate record of money in our account and how much we spend
  • Lead on Fundraising

Secretary

  • Can be a 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grader
  • Elected by all grades
  • Makes sure someone is taking notes in each meeting
  • Either facilitates or choose someone to facilitate meetings
  • Tracks action items and important dates and times 

9th Grade Representative

  • Must be 9th grader
  • Elected by only 9th grade
  • Advocates for the 9th grade class in decision making

10th Grade Representative

  • Must be 10th grader
  • Elected by only 10th grade
  • Advocates for the 10th grade class in decision making

11th Grade Representative

  • Must be 11th grader
  • Elected by only 11th grade
  • Advocates for the 11th grade class in decision making

12th Grade Representative

  • Must be 12th grader
  • Elected by only 12th grade
  • Advocates for the 12th grade class in decision making
